I feed BLACK GOLD Performance brand. http://www.blackgolddogfood.com/performance.htm  I mix in stewed deboned chicken, and give them either fish pills or a can of Macarel.

Please note that I do switch to http://www.blackgolddogfood.com/ultiperformance.htm as a mix into that food for pups and raising youths who are needing a boost.

another item that they sell and I love is http://www.blackgolddogfood.com/forte.htm for dogs who are working and training

and NUPRO http://nuprostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TNS&Category_Code=NDSJS

I give my girls who are breeding Bitch Pills: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=30E07106-7B6A-11D5-A192-00B0D0204AE5&ccd=INK002&utm_source=Inktomi&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=14114

All of these products WORK.  rememeber that a Fat dog is your WORSE nightmare with hips and elbows.  Keep them trim and active for best results at age 2 and OFA.

No one sells Black Gold around here. I give Mona the Kirkland food I saw it had a high rating on Kimmy's website. Should I change?

Nope Kirklands is good...a bit pricey but a trusted brand with a high rating.  Don't forget the canned Macarel 2 times a week.  give the whole can.  give Omega 3 and 6 and vitamin E

I feed Wellness Large breed Puppy till about 18-20 months and as Adults they get Evo Large Bites.  I also give raw chicken backs at every evening feeding. I supplement the puppies with Prevention Plus as well as Target Probiotics. The only changes I make are during heavy training seasons I feed Blackwood 7000 but in rare conditions only. Blackwood is a great food for all uses but I like he hollistic approach of Wellness.

I switched to Black Gold "Black" bag and now I will save $30/bag and get an extra 20 lbs per bag compared to the food I have been buying since I got him at 8 wks young.  At least I learned it now and can start saving.

50 lbs for $25 I still cannot get overt how much I will be saving!

Any thoughts for a "new guy" to the rottweiler world. I've been feeding my now 6yr old male Purina Pro Plan "Performance" for all life stages since I started showing him last year. His weight is good , but his hips bother him after the training sessions in preparation for the show. He's usually achy for the next few hours afterwards. Contemplating "retiring him". Oh , I also use muscle builder supplements from MVP K9 during training. I'm open to any and all advise.

consult your vet but I think you might need to see what is going on inside.  Normally glucosime and chondrotin are good to give them to ease joints but you might need a tad of a anti inflamtory to help...sounds like stiff joints and an exray might be needed.

Thanks Kimmy. The vets' got him on an inflamatory already. I only use it as needed. Day to day Frodo does great. It's only after the strenuous work outs does he wimper a little. Vet said the x-rays weren't necessary. Had the OFAs' done with a good rating in '09 so hes' seen the hips recently. I hear its' a bit of a trait with Akino offspring to have hip issues rather early in life. What do you think about the diet ? The food has been good for him , but is the extra protien really needed if I'm not going to work him for shows  any longer ?

Take his protein down to about 26 and keep the fat at about 18.

Can you say Double your spending (on dog food).......... Neo is eating double his usual 2 cups, take it or leave it meals. Now he gets 4 cups per meal (twice a day) and still licks the bowl looking for more. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of food, dry or moist, black gold, natures recipe, or any other food- he's on a growth spurt or something. He is gaining a little in the rear to catch up with his chest and head.
My questions is at what point do I stop topping up his bowl? It's funny how these elementary questions keep coming up that I never had with any other dog. Neo is different  Grin
And one more thing; why do you think he is panting three hours after coming in from a run? We have air conditioning and he doesn't just lay there, after an hour or so he wants to play again, but he's still panting like crazy.

His testiterone is coming in Chris...now is his time to start to do his final growth spurt and it sounds like you might have your hands full.  Did you do his pre-lims?  Wait until he is about 15 mo.  do not go over the recommended dog food level for his size and weight...read your label.
